Who are you? How did you get the first Leica S2-P?
My name is Matthew B. Harrison. I am an arts lawyer in New York City. I fell in love with Photography while in law school – and have spent the better part of the past decade trying to combine my two loves into one: Photos And The Law.
I got the first Leica S2-P by being really assertive. I had been ordering from a dealer abroad (Foto Henny Hoogeveen in the Netherlands) and made him an offer he could not refuse in order to guarantee his first S2-P. Little did I realize that Leica would release the S2-P version to him – before any of the other S2’s or S2-P’s were released. Thereby mine being the first commercial unit.
Are you a professional photographer?
It depends on how you define professional. According to most definitions: no – because I don’t make a living from my photography.
But that is solely my choice not to pursue it as I have an active career in art law. If I wanted to shoot portraiture or portfolio work – I could. I chose not to – as this way, I can pursue my photography without the pressure or the sacrifice that comes with needing it to put food on the table.
How many Leica cameras do you own?
Currently – about 7. Though, at times that number has been as high as 20.
I tend to buy old Leicas and perform cleanings, lubings, and adjustments/repairs – and then resell them after using them for a few months.
In my fine art work – I shoot Leica camera exclusively.
